Tria Laser Hair Removal Review

Carl Suarez's Reviews

I have been using the Tria Laser Hair removal system for just over a year and the impact it has made on both my and my family life can be quickly summarized:
“What happened to all of Daddy’s hair?”
This was the question I could tell my eldest daughter had been dying to ask me ever since we arrived at the swimming pool. In the past I had usually avoided family swimming trips as I hated being the hairy guy with the gorilla back.
Now however, this wasn’t a problem.
“Mummy, what happened to Daddy’s hair?” my daughter asked again.
My wife smiled and replied:
“the tria took it all away.”

Rave Reviews: The Tria is the Best At Home Laser Hair Remover Currently on Sale

It was very easy for us to award the Tria the title of:
**** BEST HOME LASER HAIR REMOVAL PRODUCT ****
Let me break down the main points:
  • The Tria gives you laser hair removal in the convenience and privacy of your own home.
  • It is very easy to use.
  • It’s completely safe.
  • It saves you thousands of dollars in professional salon treatments.

Most importantly, the Tria it is one of only two home laser hair removal devices to be clinically proven to deliver permanent results which has been approved by the FDA. Many other products make a big thing in their marketing about having FDA clearance; but simply having ‘clearance’ is very different from being clinically approved for permanent results.
Permanent hair removal is a hotly debated topic and the Tria does give you this. Yes, you read that right -  The Tria gives you PERMANENT HAIR REMOVAL RESULTS and I’ll be explaining this shortly.
If FDA approval wasn’t enough, the Tria has also been showered with awards ranging from Allure’s Beauty Breakthrough Award to The Prestige Skin Care Breakthrough Award given annually by Women’s Wear Daily and WWD Beauty Biz (apparently they are known as the voices of authority for the fashion, beauty and retail industries).

Tria Laser Hair Removal Reviews

The Tria is Very Easy to Use

While these accolades certainly sound impressive, they mean squat if you can’t work out how to use the damn thing and I’ll admit that before the Tria arrived, I was a little bit daunted by the idea of treating myself.
A while back, I had a couple of treatments on my arms at my local laser clinic and I got to know my electrologist Kathy quite well. I know how much training she went through to be able to treat me and my complete lack of training of any kind made me feel like a kid about to get behind the wheel of an F16 fighter jet.
“A POINT AND SHOOT DEVICE”
I needn’t have worried. The Tria Laser is very easy to use, rests nicely in your hand and involves just five simple steps.  The instructions and FAQ booklet which come with it are very clear and detailed and walk you through the whole process from set-up to shedding to results. In fact, the Tria only real rival when it comes to ease of use is the NO NO. If you want to take a look at Ally’s NONO Hair Removal Reviews, just click on the link.
The Tria is also cordless which means you don’t have to worry about any cables getting in your way when you are twisting to reach those difficult areas. You’ll find this very helpful as you will have to  rotate the laser head around it’s full axis if you’re like me and want to do hard to reach areas such as your shoulders and the back of your legs.
Here’s a short video showing you how to use the Tria:

The Tria is Completely Safe

I’ll admit the safety aspect was a big concern of mine but the folks over at the lab have really put the time in to make sure you are protected from any mishaps.
Before you first use the device, you have to activate it by calling the customer service team (who by the way are very professional and helpful) or going online. This is make sure you can use it safely and is a very simple process providing you have read the short instruction manual.
“KEEPING YOU SAFE AT ALL TIMES”
Each time you use the Tria you have to do a skin check to make sure you have the appropriate skin tone. Again this is a very simple process and takes about a second to complete. People with dark or tanned skin are not able to use the device safely as they will absorb the light which may burn and in these cases, the Tria will lock to prevent you from injuring yourself. If your skin is white, beige, ivory or light brown you’ll be good to go.
While this is a big positive, it is also the reason why the Tria just missed out on winning our Best Overall Product Award as for people with dark to deep brown or black skin, or if you have naturally blonde, red, white or gray hair, the Tria is off limits for you. These hair colors will not absorb enough light to be affected by the laser and while I sincerely hope it is only a matter of time before a product comes on the market which will open up home laser treatment to everyone, right now it’s only available to those with the previously mentioned skin and hair types.

Double the Speed means Half the Time!

One of the biggest advantages Laser treatment has over electrolysis is that it doesn’t take light years to clear an area. When the first Tria model came out in 2008, many Tria laser reviews complained that it took too long to properly treat the larger areas of your body. In response to this, Tria released an updated model early in 2009 which I have been mostly been using and which doubles the speed at which the laser fires.
With this newer model, it took me:
  • An hour to complete one leg
  • 2 hours to do my entire chest and stomach area.
  • Just under 2.5 hours for my wife to do my full back.

Anyone who has treated themselves before knows that these times are awesome!
I’m also at the extreme end of the hairy scale so for people with more manageable growth, these times will be shorter. Basically, I’m about as bad as it gets!
If you’re looking to buy the Tria, it’s best to get it direct from the Tria website to make sure you’re purchasing the updated model.
The only areas Tria don’t advise you use the laser are around the genitals or face although I think that when it comes to your chin or sideburns, the company are just being overly cautious. While I am not endorsing going against the advice of the manufacturer, all I’ll say is that I used it to stop my eyebrows taking over my forehead and found it a very simple and safe procedure.

Success With Laser Hair Removal Doesn’t Just Happen Over Night

At this point, it’s probably worth reminding you that laser treatment is not a quick fix solution, but something which takes time, effort and commitment. Many other Tria laser hair removal reviews fail to mention this and it’s taken me quite a bit of patience and conviction to get where I am now but the great thing about the Tria is that once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
As I said before, the Tria is a permanent hair removal device and if you’ll bear with me a little longer, I will explain how this is possible.
Because hair grows in cycles, the following treatment program is recommended:

0-3 months 3-5 months The Rest Of Your Life
1 treatment every 2-4 weeks 1 treatment per month Enjoy being hair free!

This means that for the average person, it will take 6-8 months of work to completely clear an area which is the same time frame as professional laser treatment.
The reason why you have to wait between treatments is because there is no point re-treating an area until your skin has shed or (as Tria so elegantly put it) “ejected” the hair follicles and the new growth cycle has begun.
Because I was at the extreme end of hairness and my hair is rather coarse, this whole process has taken me slightly longer. They say 3 treatments is the minimum before you start seeing results and 5-8 treatments to see significant hair removal. My regrowth rate has always been supersonic so I spaced out my treatments every 2 weeks but it took 8 weeks before I noticed any real change.
After this however things quickened dramatically and as my hair become less coarse as it grew back:
I BEGAN TO REALISE THE TRIA WAS ACTUALLY WORKING!
It’s take me just over 10 months to clear my back, chest, stomach and legs which is about the maximum time it could take if you stick to you treatment schedule (I did) and providing you’re not the Yeti, things should be much quicker for you.
For people will low level hair problems, 5 months is about the average and 7 months is a good universal median. 10 months is extreme!

It’s Up to You if your Tria Treatment is Painful

Using the Tria is not nearly as painful as some professional treatments but there is some discomfort involved.
Some people have described the Tria as feeling like you are being lightly flicked with a rubber band. This is pretty accurate although along with the small snap, there’s obviously a little heat involved as well. However, the Tria hair removal reviews I read when I was researching buying the Tria forgot to include one crucial fact:
“LASER TREATMENT DOESN’T HAVE TO BE PAINFUL”
Whether you feel anything is entirely up to you and and depends on the intensity level you are using the laser.  There are five intensity levels which range in strength from low (1) to high (5). Of course people do have different tolerances and coarser hair is more painful to treat because the hair roots are larger; but generally speaking when using it on a less sensitive area such as your legs or arms, Level 1 is completely painless, Level 2 feels like a faint elastic band snap, Level 3 involves a small but tolerable level of discomfort and Levels 4 & 5 are for the brave and ambitious.
For more sensitives areas like your armpits and bikini line everything simply shifts up a notch so Level 1 feels like a faint elastic band snap, Level 2 involves a small but tolerable level of discomfort etc…
The higher the level you use the less likely the hair is to grow back but what’s more important than this is that the Tria lets you decide how intense your treatment is.
Here’s a good, little clip from “The Rachael Ray Show” which was broadcast earlier this year in which Kim Kardashian talks about her experiences with the Tria:

The Tria Saves You Money on Expensive Laser Treatment Costs

At $395 the Tria is no cheap purchase. The normal price is $495 but Tria are currently running $100 discount offer. To take advantage of this before it runs out,
In addition, Tria also offer an “easy pay” payment plan which means you you only have to pay half the unit price today, and can make up the rest of the balance in small installments. Sweet!
Still, when compared to professional salon based laser treatment:
“THE TRIA WINS HANDS DOWN WHEN IS COMES TO VALUE FOR MONEY
It would cost you the same amount in professional treatments just to get part of your legs done as it would to to make a one time investment in the Tria. A full bikini line treatment cycle costs on average $2000 and to get your back cleared anything it would cost upwards of $5000. If you’re like me and are looking to treat multiple areas, then getting it all done in a clinic is a financially impossibility.
On top of this, you have to consider the hassle and stress you save not having to go back for follow up treatments every couple of weeks not to mention any cancellation fees you may incur or worse - having to miss a treatment because the salon is fully booked.
When you consider the alternative, the Tria’s price tag starts to look much less of a barrier and more of an opportunity.

The Tria Gives You Permanent Hair Removal…FOREVER!

So the Tria scores big when it comes to money saved but can it really compete with salon treatment when it comes to results. After all, what’s the use in saving thousands of dollars if the outcome is inferior? Does it work in the long run?
Now is perhaps the time to debunk some of posts on various hair removal forums which claim that permanent laser hair removal can only be achieved by visiting a salon and handing over thousands of dollars.
This is completely untrue and it has been proven so by countless independent clinical trials. The main ‘evidence’ for this is always that eventually the treated hair grows back and that home laser hair removal devices can only reduce hair growth and not stop it completely.
However, these well meaning people always forget to mention one crucial point: hair grows in cycles and you can only ever completely destroy a hair follicle when it is in the active stage of growth. Because only about 1/3 of your hair is in this growth stage at any one time, it is likely that you will initially experience some regrowth. However, over time you will catch all the hair follicles in the active phase of growth and over time they will all be destroyed…forever. You just need to be patience and stick to your treatment schedule.
Ultimately, the only true test for permanency is:
ARE YOU STILL HAIR FREE 6 MONTHS AFTER ALL TREATMENTS HAS STOPPED?
Well in my case, it’s been ALMOST 8 MONTHS since I finished treating my back, chest, stomach and legs and there is still NO SIGN OF HAIR GROWING BACK.
This has made me not to mention my wife, very happy. It has been a long road to get to this point and I’ve had to deal with a lot of setbacks and disappointments along the way. But the Tria has changed all of this and it can do the same for you.
In the end, all you really need to know is that the Tria Laser Hair Removal System does what it has been clinically proven to do and if you’re looking for an effective home laser solution for permanent hair removal, there’s only one name you need to remember.
